Dr. Lettieri is a leader in forensic psychology, with over 25 years of experience in conducting criminal and civil forensic examinations. He has completed over 2000 forensic evaluations, and has been asked to opine on issues ranging from insanity, competency to stand trial, the effects of brain damage and/or intellectual disabilities on defendants’ behavior, violent sex crimes, and on the state of mind of individuals who have committed crimes ranging from assault to partner violence to mass murder. In the civil domain, he has been retained by both applicant and defense to opine on issues related to workplace injury, brain injury, psychological trauma, hostile workplace environment, sexual harassment and more. He has given expert witness testimony in court and in depositions in at almost 100 cases. He has served as a private consultant to attorneys on multiple occasions, helping them to understand their clients and to better represent them. In whatever context he is functioning as an expert, Dr. Lettieri employs pragmatic, empirical and ethically based approaches. With additional training as a psychoanalyst that is beyond most experts, he is uniquely qualified to understand the emotional and mental states of individuals when forming his expert opinions, as the development of such a capacity is a primary focus of psychoanalytic education.

Dr. Lettieri has written and lectured on a variety of topics including psychological assessment issues, the identification of violence potential, the roots of self-defeating behavior and of cruelty, PTSD, the formation of self-deception, substance abuse in the workplace, learning disorders and on the financial mechanisms involved in the delivery of healthcare.
